Now put a Ford oval on the Scoob and install some zip tie stitches - then dare people to notice the difference.

at first glance it appears like you’ve just stretched the first image in photoshop.

Oval - More tall

Bumpers - More tall

Car - More tall

Yeah they look much more similar for that angle than I had thought they would.

That’s the best way to frame a new car purchase!

I’ll see myself out..

Seriously though, a nice upgrade.

I saw an escape with a Forester grill a few months ago. It took me a minute to realize it was a Ford.

Haha, last time I switched the thing between my plates, it was the exact same car (2 years newer but same generation) but just a different color. I really did throw some people for a loop. “Wait, did you paint your car/Wasn’t it black? No. Wait, did you? Really? You got a new one that was the exact same as the old one?? WTF?” I even kept the “incorrect” wheels (from a ‘99 328i) and the roof rack (obviously). An astute observer would note that the new one is a facelift... but yeah. I really wanted to keep the old car for parts / rally cross / confusing the neighbors.

States that don’t keep plates with the car are weird. What happens when you have more than one car? I’m betting on anarchy.

Well I thought you could just order new plates, but it turns out you have to ritually drown a raccoon and recite Edgar Allen Poe passages in order to summon the license plate fairy.

The town office would issue you new plates. They were more than happy to issue me new plates for Forest but I can remember these plates and it only cost $15 to get it registered for 3 months and these plates run out. It would cost ~$128 to get new plates and register it for a year or to register it with the old plates for a year.

Yeah I drove a 5 speed Forester of the same gen and I didn’t like it. At all. The pedals are all super close and it felt super awkward. I was wearing sandals and it felt super close I can’t imagine when I’d be wearing winter boots. I did not try out an XT but everyone says they are fast and fun.

The plates run out!? So you have to turn them in and get new ones? Or you just have to register these ones again for a year? If you have two cars, and sell one with nowhere to put your plates, can you sell your “still good” plates on craigslist?

Or, follow me on this one, say you have Car A and Car B. Car A has 11 months left on it’s plates, Car B has one month. You sell Car A. Can you use your Car A plates on Car B and only pay that fifteen dollars?

AND OMG WAIT. Is registration based on vehicle worth? Could you buy a beater, register that one, and then pay the transfer fee to your fancy expensive car over and over again to avoid paying higher registration on that car!? PURE MADNESS I SAY.

Sort of off topic but I just want to say it’s so nice to see vintage plates on vintage cars here. It just looks wrong to me to have some beautiful 60 year old car with brand spankin’ new license plates on it. It’s like “Go away government, this isn’t about you”

When the plates run our you pay money for stickers that you replace or place over you old ones. I’m not sure if you could sell your still good plates on CL but you could try. I think they’d have an issue with registering those plates because your name would be on them.

You could switch plates A from car A to car B you’d be charge some amount of money based on the relatives costs to do so.

Yes registration is based on car worth and a nebulous web of factors. When you switch plates to the more expensive car you’d have to pay more money since you only paid for the beater.

One snowy winters night I came around the corner and there was a deer so I got on the brakes and slowly slid very close to the deer. Once I had come to a stop nearly touching it the deer decided to jump away and in the process it kicked my bumper and broke it in the middle. Then one frigid winter’s morning I pulled out of my driveway and slid gently into the mountain of ice at the end of my driveway and a good portion of it shattered.

Basically I beat the shit out of it and cobbled it together with mad drift stitches.

Well, that’s a fun way to piece things back together. In other front bumper-related topics, you should get a recessed frame for that front plate. I have personal experience putting one on the front of a Subaru.

Wow, you got a lot out of that Meguiars Gold! Looks like a totally different car! If they both didn’t have the Blue Ovals in the grill I never would have put it together! The shine on the badge makes it hard to see the word Ford now though.
